Spine and spinal cord tumor surgery

Tumors in and around the spinal cord โ€” schwannomas, meningiomas, ependymomas, astrocytomas and metastatic deposits โ€” can cause progressive pain, numbness, weakness and loss of bladder control. Because the spinal cord has no room to spare, these operations demand microsurgical technique and continuous intra-operative neuromonitoring, which Dr. Shyam uses routinely to protect function while removing the tumor.

Tumors treated

  • Intradural extramedullary tumors โ€” schwannoma, neurofibroma, meningioma
  • Intramedullary tumors โ€” ependymoma, astrocytoma
  • Vertebral body tumors and spinal metastases
  • Sacral and craniovertebral junction tumors

Many patients โ€” like the spinal cord tumor patient referred by a US-based physician in our testimonials โ€” walk within days of surgery. Early diagnosis matters: unexplained progressive limb weakness or night-time spine pain deserves an MRI and a specialist review.
