Minimally invasive spine surgery (MISS)

Traditional open spine surgery involves long incisions and significant muscle stripping. Minimally invasive spine surgery achieves the same surgical goals through incisions often under 2 cm, using tubular retractors, microscopes and endoscopes โ€” which means less blood loss, less post-operative pain, shorter hospital stays (often 1โ€“2 days) and a much faster return to work.

Procedures offered

  • Microdiscectomy and endoscopic discectomy for slipped disc / sciatica
  • Minimally invasive decompression for lumbar canal stenosis
  • MIS-TLIF โ€” keyhole spinal fusion
  • Percutaneous screw fixation for fractures
  • Kyphoplasty / vertebroplasty for osteoporotic fractures
  • Cervical disc replacement and ACDF for neck disc problems

Do I need spine surgery at all?

Most back and neck pain does not need surgery. Dr. Shyam’s first recommendation is usually structured conservative care; surgery is advised only for persistent nerve compression, progressive weakness, instability or failed conservative treatment โ€” and you will always be told honestly which category you fall into.
