Cerebrovascular surgery โ€” aneurysms, AVMs and bypass

A brain aneurysm is a weak, ballooned segment of an artery in the brain; when it ruptures it causes a life-threatening bleed. Dr. Shyam completed a dedicated cerebrovascular and bypass fellowship under Prof. Yoko Kato in Japan โ€” one of the world’s foremost aneurysm surgeons โ€” and treats the complete range of vascular conditions of the brain.

Conditions treated

  • Ruptured and unruptured brain aneurysms โ€” microsurgical clipping
  • Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs)
  • Cavernomas
  • Dural arteriovenous fistulas
  • Carotid artery stenosis โ€” carotid endarterectomy
  • Moyamoya disease โ€” cerebral revascularisation and bypass

Why timing matters

A sudden, worst-ever headache โ€” often described as a thunderclap โ€” can signal aneurysm rupture and needs emergency evaluation. Unruptured aneurysms found on scans deserve a calm, expert assessment: many can simply be observed, while others are best secured electively. Dr. Shyam will give you an honest recommendation either way.
